The complaint
IoT Innovations LLC filed IoT Innovations LLC v. Legrand North America, LLC, No. 2:26-cv-00987, in the Marshall Division of the Eastern District of Texas on October 31, 2026. The docket assigns the case to Judge Rodney Gilstrap, with Magistrate Judge Roy S. Payne. IoT Innovations demands a jury.
IoT Innovations says it is a Texas limited liability company with a registered office in Austin, Texas. The complaint alleges, on information and belief, that Legrand North America is a Delaware limited liability company based in West Hartford, Connecticut, and that, directly and through its brands and affiliates, it designs, makes, imports, sells, and offers for sale the accused products in the United States. It alleges, on information and belief, that Legrand has a corporate office in Richardson and a location in Dallas, Texas that serve customers in the district, and pleads venue under 28 U.S.C. 1391(c) and 1400(b).
The patents and asserted claims
The complaint asserts six patents, one count each: U.S. Patent 7,165,224, Image Browsing and Downloading in Mobile Networks (issued January 16, 2007); U.S. Patent 7,974,260, Method of Transmitting Time-Critical Scheduling Information Between Single Network Devices in a Wireless Network Using Slotted Point-to-Point Links (July 5, 2011); U.S. Patent 9,008,055, Automatic Remote Services Provided by a Home Relationship Between a Device and a Server (April 14, 2015); U.S. Patent 7,075,907, Method for Signalling DTX Periods and Allocation of New Channels in a Statistical Multiplexed Radio Interface (July 11, 2006); Reissue Patent RE44,742, Dynamic Message Templates and Messaging Macros (February 4, 2014), a reissue of U.S. Patent 7,751,533; and U.S. Patent 7,593,428, Apparatus, and Associated Method, for Forming, and Operating Upon, Multiple-Checksum-Protected Data Packet (September 22, 2009).
As an example for each patent, the complaint relies on claim 1 of the '224, '055, '907, and '742 patents, claim 5 of the '260 patent, and claim 14 of the '428 patent, with an evidence-of-use chart for each in Exhibits A to F.
What the asserted claims cover
Claim 1 of the '224 patent covers a method of viewing an image on a mobile device: storing in the device a miniaturized version of an image stored in the device, transferring the image to an external storage device, deleting the image from the device, detecting selection of the miniaturized version, and, in response, sending over a wireless communication network a first message requesting transfer of the image to the device and receiving a second message over that network transferring the image to the device.
Claim 5 of the '260 patent covers a method of transmitting timing control information from a first device to a second device in a communication network: defining at the first device a data sequence with a header portion carrying an address code of the second device (a first active member address, with a second active member address also assigned to the second device) and a payload portion carrying timing control information for communicating packets that defines when the second device communicates, and transmitting the sequence in a data communication packet from the first device to the second device in a time defined contact slot.
Claim 1 of the '055 patent covers a method for automatically providing remote services for a mobile device that has an established relationship with a server of a home network: the server receives information stored in the device when the relationship was established, when the device connects to the Internet through a separate, remote local network, where establishing the relationship lets the user set preferences identifying at least one service performed automatically between device and server on connection; and, if the device is recognized through that information, the server automatically activates at least one function to initiate a data transfer with the device through the local network.
Claim 1 of the '907 patent covers a method for operating a wireless telecommunications system: signalling between a mobile station and a network that one of them is temporarily ceasing transmission of frames; the network, in response, determining whether the mobile station's current traffic channel can be retained or must be released; and, if it must be released, the network signalling the mobile station to release it.
Claim 1 of RE44,742, as reissued, covers a method comprising executing an application at a device, where message context data items are associated with the executing application; selecting one of those items; and automatically inserting it in a dynamic field of a template to facilitate the creation of a message to send from the device. The reissue deleted two steps that claim 1 of the original 7,751,533 patent recited: selecting a messaging technology to send the message and selecting a template that has a dynamic field.
Claim 14 of the '428 patent covers a method in which a transceiver station receives data from a data source and, in response to programmed instructions in its processing circuitry, selects a first portion of the data to be protected by a first checksum and a second portion to be protected by a second checksum, performs a checksum calculation on each portion, and formats the data into a packet containing the first portion, indicia of the first checksum calculation, the second portion, and indicia of the second checksum calculation.
The accused products
The complaint defines the accused products to include Netatmo smart home security products, among them the Smart Indoor Camera, Smart Outdoor Camera with Siren, Smart Video Doorbell, Smart Smoke Alarm, and the Home + Security application and its server-based platform, and the Home + Control application; Bluetooth audio receivers and DALI multisensor detectors; LTE-enabled products, including a networked Level 2 EV charger, cellular modems, serial consoles, routers, gateways, and servers sold under brands including ZPE Systems, BTicino, Ensto, and Raritan; and IEEE 802.11 products such as access points, wireless controllers, bridges, routers, smart thermostats, intelligent PDUs, cameras, and media players.
By count, the complaint ties the Netatmo Smart Indoor Camera, its application, and cloud backup to the '224 patent; the Bluetooth receivers and DALI detectors to the '260 patent; the Home + Security application and connected devices to the '055 patent; the LTE-enabled products to the '907 patent; the Home + Security and Weather applications with connected devices to the '742 patent; and the 802.11 access points and related products to the '428 patent.
Counts and relief
Each count alleges that Legrand directly infringes one patent by making, using, selling, offering for sale, importing, providing, supplying, or distributing the accused products, literally or under the doctrine of equivalents, and that IoT Innovations is owed damages of no less than a reasonable royalty under 35 U.S.C. 284. For the '055 and '742 patents only, the complaint also alleges irreparable harm, knowledge of the patent at least as of notice of the action, induced and contributory infringement (pleaded on information and belief), willful blindness through an alleged policy of not reviewing others' patents (also on information and belief), and willful infringement.
The prayer asks for a judgment that one or more claims of each asserted patent has been infringed; a permanent injunction, or an ongoing royalty in the alternative, on the '055 and '742 patents; an accounting and damages; a finding of willful infringement and treble damages on the '055 and '742 patents; interest; and an exceptional-case finding with fees and costs under 35 U.S.C. 285.
