The complaint

The case is isoValent LLC v. X Corp., No. 7:26-cv-00383-DC (W.D. Tex., Midland/Odessa Division), filed September 18, 2026, ECF No. 1 (5 pages). The complaint demands a jury trial. isoValent LLC, which the complaint describes as a New Mexico corporation, alleges it is the assignee of all right, title and interest in U.S. Patent 11,188,989. The complaint describes X Corp. as a Nevada corporation. The docket shows the case assigned to Judge David Counts under the court's order assigning patent cases.

What the patent covers

U.S. Patent 11,188,989, titled Method for Providing Social Network Service, issued November 30, 2021, from an application the complaint says was filed January 21, 2016; a February 20, 2024 certificate of correction lists a PCT filing date of August 31, 2011. Claim 1 recites a method for providing a social network service in a service server: receiving a first keyword input directly and designated explicitly for generating and joining a network by a first member, in correspondence with that member's current interest, from the member's terminal; generating a network, which includes an online community, with the first keyword as its identification information when no such network has been created; and transmitting an invitation to join to at least a second member when that member inputs a second keyword identical or analogous to the first, with the second member added on accepting. The complaint relies on claim charts in Exhibit 2 for the exemplary claims and products; the exhibit is not available. (Compl. paras. 9, 11 and 16; U.S. Patent 11,188,989 claim 1.)

What the lawsuit alleges

isoValent alleges that X Corp. has directly infringed one or more claims of the '989 patent by making, using, offering to sell, selling, and/or importing the Exemplary Defendant Products identified in the charts, and through employees' internal testing and use. It alleges, on information and belief, that X Corp. has continued to sell those products and distribute product literature and website materials that induce end users to infringe, and it alleges induced infringement at least since service of the complaint and charts. The single count seeks damages, and the prayer asks for a judgment that the patent is valid and enforceable and a finding that the case is exceptional under 35 U.S.C. 285. (Compl. paras. 11 to 18; Prayer.)

What to watch next

The summons was returned executed on October 15, 2026 (ECF No. 8). On October 26, a notice of attorney appearance (ECF No. 9) and a motion to extend the time to answer (ECF No. 10) were filed, and the docket shows an October 27 order on that motion and a reset answer deadline. Watch for X Corp.'s answer or a Rule 12 motion. Any case can end at any time, including by settlement or voluntary dismissal.
