The parties and the patent
The case is Zhou v. Hefeibiluandianzishangwuyouxiangongsi, No. 1:26-cv-12395 (N.D. Ill.). The complaint says the plaintiff, Haihua Zhou, is the inventor and owner of U.S. Design Patent D1,099,404, titled Candle Warmer Lamp, issued October 21, 2025, which claims the ornamental design for a candle warmer lamp as shown and described. It alleges on information and belief that the defendant is organized under Chinese law and operates the GODONLIF US storefront, and it says the storefront's seller profile displays a business address in Hefei, China.
What the complaint alleges
The complaint alleges that the defendant's candle warmer lamps, sold under the GODONLIF name in nine color configurations, have an overall design substantially the same as the patented design in the eyes of an ordinary observer familiar with the prior art, and that differences in color, finish, lighting, and features shown in broken lines do not change that comparison. It says the plaintiff preserved the Amazon listings, seller profile information, and test-purchase evidence of orders placed for shipment to Chicago. Venue is pleaded under 28 U.S.C. 1391(b)(2) and 1391(c)(3).
Relief requested
The plaintiff asks for a preliminary and permanent injunction under 35 U.S.C. 283, an order directing the defendant and Amazon to remove or disable listings for products found to infringe, damages under 35 U.S.C. 284 or the defendant's total profit under 35 U.S.C. 289, enhanced damages under 35 U.S.C. 284 to the extent permitted by law, interest, and fees and costs under 35 U.S.C. 285 if the case is found exceptional. The complaint does not allege willfulness or pre-suit notice, Amazon is not a party, and the complaint demands a jury trial.
