The complaint

The case is Penghang Zhuang v. Hongkong Uking Trading Limited, No. 1:26-cv-10788 (N.D. Ill., Eastern Division), an eight page complaint filed September 8, 2026, ECF No. 1, with the patent and an infringement analysis attached as exhibits. The docket shows the case randomly assigned to Judge Jeremy C. Daniel, with Magistrate Judge Beth W. Jantz designated. The complaint describes Zhuang as an individual residing in China and says Zhuang offers stadium seats embodying the design through Zhuang's own online stores and authorized retailers, including Amazon. It says its allegations beyond Zhuang's own acts are made on information and belief, and alleges, on information and belief, that Uking operates the Amazon storefront UkingDirect under the seller alias Sekey, with an Amazon-listed business address in Kowloon, Hong Kong.

What the patent covers

U.S. Design Patent D981,123, titled Chair, issued March 21, 2023, naming Penghang Zhuang as applicant and inventor. Its single claim is to the ornamental design for a chair, as shown and described in the drawings. The complaint describes the claimed design as a stadium seat and alleges Zhuang owns all right, title, and interest in the patent.

The accused product

The complaint alleges that Uking offered for sale and sold, through its Amazon storefront, a stadium seat product identified by Amazon ASIN B0GBW5PV29 whose overall appearance is substantially the same as the patented design, and it includes side-by-side comparisons. It alleges personal jurisdiction based on sales directed to Illinois and a test purchase of the accused product shipped to Illinois, and pleads venue under 28 U.S.C. 1391.

The relief sought

Zhuang asks for temporary, preliminary, and permanent injunctions against making, selling, or importing the accused product; orders directed to Amazon and other marketplaces to disable the storefront, listings, and related advertising; damages of no less than a reasonable royalty under 35 U.S.C. 284; Uking's total profit under 35 U.S.C. 289 to the extent available, without duplicative recovery; and attorneys' fees under 35 U.S.C. 285. Zhuang demands a jury trial.

The docket so far

Zhuang moved for a temporary restraining order on September 9, 2026, ECF No. 4, with a memorandum, declarations, the infringement analysis, a test purchase record, and an Amazon research record, and noticed it for presentment on September 15. The court entered an order on the motion on September 11, ECF No. 8, which is not available. A motion for an extension of time to answer was filed October 12, ECF No. 13, and the court ruled on it October 13, ECF No. 14.
