The complaint

Electronic Edison Transmission Technologies, LLC v. Winnebago Industries, Inc., No. 0:26-cv-03972 (D. Minn.), is a twenty-four-page complaint for patent infringement filed September 11, 2026, ECF No. 1, with a jury demand. The complaint alleges, on information and belief, that Winnebago is a Minnesota corporation with a place of business in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

What the patent covers

U.S. Patent 9,448,603 is titled Transferring power to a mobile device and issued September 20, 2016. Claim 8 covers a method for transferring power to a receptor mobile device from a donor mobile device having a battery: configuring a wireless power transfer mechanism on the receptor device using a wireless receive application, determining a receptor power threshold using a wireless receive application, and receiving power from the donor device and converting it into electric current using that mechanism, where the mechanism includes a power adapter having a coil, circuit elements to transfer power, and a capacitor to store electric charge that increases battery life when the capacitor is discharged.

What the lawsuit is about

Electronic Edison alleges, on information and belief, that Winnebago directly infringes claim 8 at least through use and testing of the wireless charging provided in vehicles like the Winnebago Voyage and Micro Minnie, which the complaint describes as a Qi-compatible charging pad that transfers power from the vehicle to a smartphone placed on it. It also alleges induced and contributory infringement, with knowledge alleged at least as of service of the complaint. The complaint states that it asserts only a method claim, so the marking requirement of 35 U.S.C. 287(a) does not apply. The prayer asks for a judgment that claim 8 was infringed, damages and costs, preliminary and permanent injunctions, and interest.

What to watch next

The docket shows an order of recusal entered October 19, 2026 (ECF No. 13) and an order on a motion for extension of time on October 20, 2026. Watch for Winnebago's answer or Rule 12 motion.
