The original multi-defendant case
Omni MedSci, Inc., a Michigan corporation, filed Omni MedSci, Inc. v. Samsung Electronics, Co. Ltd., No. 2:24-cv-01070 (E.D. Tex.), on December 20, 2024, against Samsung Electronics, Co. Ltd., Samsung Electronics America, Inc., Fossil Group, Inc., Fossil Stores I, Inc., Fossil Partners, L.P., OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., and Ōura Health Oy. The original complaint asserted U.S. Patents 9,055,868; 9,651,533; 10,517,484; 10,874,304; and 11,160,455. The case is assigned to Judge Rodney Gilstrap and referred to Magistrate Judge Roy S. Payne.
In an order signed March 31, 2026, Judge Gilstrap adopted Judge Payne's report and recommendation, overruled Omni MedSci's objections, and granted Oura's motion to dismiss the third amended complaint as to improper joinder, denying it otherwise. Magistrate Judge Payne held the final pretrial conference in the Samsung case on October 2, 2026. The minutes record that the court denied the defendants' motion to compel claim narrowing, and that the case was released from the November trial docket, with an order of trials for December, expected to start December 7, to follow. An October 27, 2026 order granted a joint motion to amend the docket control order.
The severed cases: Oura, Fossil, and OnePlus
Omni MedSci, Inc. v. Oura Health Oy, No. 2:26-cv-00289 (E.D. Tex.), opened April 10, 2026, with the joinder order as its second docket entry. Omni MedSci filed what it titled a fourth amended complaint on April 15, 2026, asserting U.S. Patents 9,055,868; 9,651,533; 10,874,304; and 12,268,475 against Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3, and Gen 4 series smart rings. Oura answered on April 29, 2026, objecting to the fourth amended label because, it says, this is a newly severed action, and counterclaimed for declaratory judgments of noninfringement and invalidity. The case is assigned to Judge Gilstrap and referred to Judge Payne, and the docket shows sealed motions and a pretrial conference held September 30, 2026.
Omni MedSci, Inc. v. Fossil Group, Inc., No. 2:26-cv-00470, and Omni MedSci, Inc. v. OnePlus Technology (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd., No. 2:26-cv-00472, both opened in the Eastern District of Texas on June 12, 2026, and are assigned to Judge Gilstrap and referred to Judge Payne. The OnePlus docket opens with an order on a motion to sever signed by Judge Payne that day, followed by a third amended complaint. The Fossil docket opens with an order and an amended complaint. Neither complaint is available.

What to watch next
Watch for the December order of trials in No. 2:24-cv-01070, for rulings on the motions to dismiss in the new Samsung and Apple cases, for claim construction and trial settings in the Oura case, for what the June 18, 2026 orders in the Fossil and OnePlus cases provide (neither is available), and for answers or motions in the STMicroelectronics and Sony cases. Any of these cases can end at any time, including by settlement or voluntary dismissal.
